One single man recovers a forest

In India there is a man who singlehandedly and without using any industrial machinery has recovered a forest of 550 hectares (Central Park NYC = 341 hectares), all by himself since 1979. Who's next?
With just 0,017% of human population doing the same, we would recover another Amazon forest!

For the past 35 years Jadav Payeng has been planting trees on Majuli Island in Northern India. The 550 Hectares Molai Forest began as a barren sandbar in the middle of a river. Payeng has turned it into a tropical wildlife refuge singlehandedly. It has become his life's work. (more at treehugger.com)

 

The Kogi People of Colombia

And then there is the Kogi people, a tribe that lives in the Sierra Nevada de Santta Marta mountains of northern Colombia, in South America.

They are the only civilization to have survived the Spanish conquests and to have kept their individuality, up to present day! They are perhaps the only indigenous people in the world who, because of the particular nature of their surroundings, have been able to keep themselves apart and sustain their culture inviolate.

And they have a warning message for modern industrial society.
